presidential approval ratings

Published Oct. 14, 2008

Interesting website I stumbled across. Shows a comparison of presidential approval ratings over time since Truman. Not trying to make any political point, just thought others might find it interesting.  Seems like Reagan and Clinton were the only two presidents in recent history that didn't lose a significant amount of approval during their presidency (Clinton actually ended way up).

If you click the 'next' or 'prev' buttons, it shows you an individual graph of each president with significant events highlighted.

I was too young back in the first Bush's days (8-12), so I can't say I know much about him. He did appear to handle the first gulf war very well. Why did his numbers drop so fast? Was it mainly b/c of the high unemployment and poverty rates? And I guess maybe his reversal of his "no new taxes" promise?

Bush handed this Presidential election to the Dems! Thanks GWB, this is one of the best things you've done for the American people since you stole, excuse me, won the election...

I think Bill Clinton will go down in history as one of the greatest Presidents of all time. Maybe even greater than Ron Reagan or Abe Lincoln.

"but it just goes to show how easily moral issues are forgotten in our country."

I don't think anyone is defending Clinton's morality.

seriouly ladyblue, you're making a huge assumption. he didn't get bin laden because he was getting head? so do you not think george and laura get it on anymore? would distract from his job? are presidents supposed to be focused on their job 24/7? Jerry-7

Did you forget in the testimony that Monica gave that once while she was occupied that the president was carrying on foreign affairs and they snickered over it? It's a big difference when a president goes to his private chambers and has a romp with the first lady than a president whose sitting at the table of the oval office playing around and answering the telephone. That's history anyway but it just goes to show how easily moral issues are forgotten in our country.

"Regarding Clinton, it's not surprising - he has a proven way of getting things up."

He certainly does rise to the occasion when duty calls.

Based on the Bushies track record of blowing major support for military action, a third one would be a poor choice.

Gone with the wind,

This has some good information about Clinton and terrorists: http://www.snopes.com/rumors/clinton.asp

And I don't really think what he was doing with monica really distracted him, it was the witch hunt that followed.

ladyblue, trying to go incognito?

No. I'm entering into a era long gone: as gone as "gone with the wind."
