making biscuits
Published Oct. 7, 2008If you've ever been employed in a hot enviroment where sweat is something that can't be avoided, you're probably familiar with the practice of a dash or two of corn starch to ease the possiblity of becoming 'gaulded' which is extremely painful. Especially when the next day you have to keep on working with that condition regardless how uncomfortable or painful it is to you.
So some of the guys I work with keep a little box or baggie of corn starch and when they feel the 'pre-shift' application of corn starch has lost it's effectivness, they'll carry their ameliorant with them to porcelain throne so they can add a dash or two to the affected areas to get a little relief when they get back on the production floor. It really helps ease the friction burning while you walk about.
One guy, on another shift, likes to use copious amounts of the stuff when he makes his necessary visits. It must look like a approaching sand storm or wild fire when he dusts his derriere and inner thighs. The evidence of a deverish like waltz is there on the floor around the toilet, on the walls, the paper holder and total dusting left on the seat itself. One of my co-workers came into the break room after following our little corn starch enthusiast and proclaimed "Someone has been making biscuits in the bathrooms again." Took a few moments but then we figured out what he was referring to. It's not just the total mess that's left behind by this exercise in excess, but all that corn starch does the same for the toilet seat as it does the skin. It reduces friction. There's a real fear to go in for a bathroom break and end up getting an OSHA from 'slipping off the toilet seat' and anyone that would have that bad of luck would probably endure the pain until they could find a nearby set of stairs to throw themselves down rather than admit the truth.
So the next time you hear of someone 'making biscuits' you've got a whole new aspect of the phrase to consider. For myself, I've started ordering my morning bacon, egg & cheese on toast , rather than biscuits.

And I don't think the ladies in public restrooms do either, or if they do they have something seriously wrong with them.
