jordan lake cleanup...october 18th 8am, roberson creek boat ramp
Published Sep. 25, 2008After reading about a planned cleanup effort last week in the N & O for October 18th (Saturday), I have steadily been finding our more about the details and also have been seeking volunteers to help with this project. GOLO has once again proven to be a valuable asset to our community.
A sincere thank you to GOLO member OldRebel for sending me the link to the Carolina Canoe Club's information page. This is the group that is putting this massive cleaup of Jordan Lake together. Again, thank you OldRebel for your help!!!! It's exactly the information I was seeking!!!
For detailed information about this project, please read the information page online at the Carolina Canoe Club's website. Click HERE.
If anyone wants to help out on October 18th, they plan on meeting at Roberson Creek Boat Ramp that Saturday morning at 8AM. You will need to dress for the weather and the conditions. Rubber gloves and trash bags will be provided, and Chatham County will furnish the volunteers with a dumpster for the bagged trash.
My plans are to be one of the boaters who will be transporting the many bags full of trash from the site to the ramp. I will also be able to carry up to two volunteers at a time to the collection site and back as needed. I hope that many others with boats will volunteer to do the same. A few already have, but with up to 200 people in canoes collecting the trash, we will need all the HELP we can get...both taking people out and back in as needed, and hauling the trash onshore to the dumpster at the ramp.
Volunteers are needed and your help will not only be appreciated, but will greatly add to the success of cleaning up Jordan Lake. Boaters are especially needed to shuttle the volunteers who would like to help, but can only do so if they have a way to the secluded areas where the trash is located, and that shoreline is accessable only by boat. Boaters are also in need for ferrying the bagged trash.
If you would like to help, you can signup at the above link to the Carolina Canoe Club's website. You may also contact me in my profile. I will do my best to accommodate your questions and needs.
I hope you can make it!!!!!
