severe thunderstorm

This is a photo Val took of the severe thunderstorm over Wake and Johnston counties on 07-08-08 at about 8:30 pm. You are looking at the leading edge of the storm facing east from our location very cleanly deliniated against the clear skies in front of its motion.

The edge is approximately four miles downrange or just east of downtown Raleigh. We are located under the northern edge of the storm. It is much more severe to our south and southeast.

I was out doing my walk/run - okay, mostly walking with my daughter when we saw that cloud formation coming our way. It was really scary. My daughter and I tried to outrun it but we couldn't. We made it home in time only because we ran through a few yards! I hope my neighbors didn't mind. It rained pretty hard for awhile but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Of course, the satellite went out so we watched the movie "Vantage Point"

Great picture. I saw it too and it was amazing how it was clear and then got so dark with those clouds.
