triple-day weekend fun
Published Jul. 5, 2008My friends...HAPPY Fourth Of July! It's been a fun for me so far, and I hope all of you are having equally as much fun as I am.
Yesterday morning I began my holiday weekend by waking up at 5 AM and hitting the highway to Asheville's coolness, and that it is! The traffic was very light all the way, but the cops were certainly keeping their presence known to us on the roads. A few unlucky ones received a speeding ticket courstesy of the Highway Patrol. So if you're out travelling, take it easy with that gas pedal. That not only saves gas, but maybe a fine!
The trip took me 4 hours, and once arriving we wasted no time hitting the lake. My brother and myself spent the entire day fishing out of his boat on Lake Julian...a thermal lake owned by Progress Energy. Although not the best time of the year for fishing this lake (water is 93 degrees), we both had a great day! We're rivals when it comes to being the better fisherman...like two kids competing at a game. Well (hehehe), he just had a birthday and I am happy to announce that I gave him his birthday whooping! I caught 2 bass and he caught none. Gosh is he a sore loser! LOL!!
Afterwards, Buncombe County (who operates the Lake Julian Park) had one heck of a fireworks display over the lake! This showing is the BEST fireworks display I have ever seen for the Fourth. I know the fish in the lake thought that there was one heck of a thunder and lightning storm going on when they were shooting off those fireworks! They lasted every bit of 30 minutes, and the park was packed with people.
Afterwards, we chatted till about 12 AM, and it was time to call it a night. I was very lucky to have found a motel, for most were filled up. Unfortunately though, I'm paying dearly for the room. But did I ever sleep good last night!
Today I finally got out of bed at 11 this morning, the latest I've slept in years. I plan on getting my money's worth out of this room! This evening I plan on visiting an ole friend of mine for over 30 years...from way back in high school. I'm looking forward to the visit. And tomorrow it will be back to Raleigh.
So till I return, everyone have a fun weekend. The Fourth is my favorite holiday of the year. Oh by the way...did I mention how pleasant the weather is here? The cool nights are a real treat, as are the not-so-hot days that the mountains are blessed with. So I guess I can say this is a cool place!
Be talking at my Golo friends soon!!!!!

Things were ok 'till this morning, when one of my folks called out. So guess who had to fill in for the day?
