This is my 49th 4th of July on this spinning blue ball in space that orbit’s the big ole’ fiery ball of gas that travels across our bright blue sky every single day. I have lived to see that event happen over 18,000 days.
Although that may not be of any importance to any of you (and I surely don’t expect it to be), I’d like to think it’s important to my friends and family. Heck, I sometimes delude myself into thinking that I’m the center of my family’s universe. (Sounded great for a millisecond in my head). But I am not.
Now, we all know that this country is the bomb, warts and all we still outshine most countries on this earth. What a blessing that I was set down here in this country when there are so many other places I could’ve been born in. Poor, war torn and desolate countries could have been my home or yours. Just a roll of the dice one could say.
The most prosperous, fortunate country that is dictatorship free is where I landed, one of a family of 8 brothers and sisters. And although it’s getting harder to buy things, we can still buy them in abundance. We can roam this huge country with it’s many gorgeous city lights at nights, vistas with brilliant splashes of orange, gold and yellow sunsets against rocky peaks in the west. Not one but two major coasts to splash, dip your toes and play in on the mainland alone. Let us not forget the islands in the Pacific, and an enormous state that almost kisses the Russia coastline, yet hugs the Canadian west. I’ll say it again….What a blessing.
We sometimes think we are the center of this earth, that the rest of this earth should revolve around us. If we denied it, we’d be lying. But you almost can’t help it when all we hear day in and day out is news about US. The facts are as you well know that this country is celebrating OUR independence. Nobody else on this spinning ball sees the importance of this date like we do. Why should they? Other countries out there have had much more turmoil than we have and probably will EVER have considering our age of 232. We’re just newborns in the big scheme of things, we’ve heard that time and again. Who knows that lies ahead for us the U.S. but you and I are right here, right now.
WE are all here, at a very good place, in a very time, on this very good earth spinning around that very good ball of gases that helps to give us sunlight, rain, wind, snows to sustain us all. We live through it all the good and the bad but we live through it all HERE not some other country. That to me is a huge blessing.
