do you "paul revere" ? ? ?
Published Jun. 28, 2008The "Paul Revere" question is asking if you warn others on the open highway of a traffic stop that you've just passed. Car's coming at you in the opposite lane and one or two of them flash their headlights several times as they pass by. Instinctively most of us will let off the throttle and check the speedometer. Because "Paul Revere" just told us there is some kind of trouble ahead on the highway and we'd just as soon not find out it's a hidden radar zone or stealthy NCHP on the side ramp waiting to pounce on speeders and other ne'er-do-wells that pass the ambush site.
What do you think of the practice of "warning" others of those kinds of situations? Do you do the "Paul Revere" flash yourself? How do you react when you see someone "warning" you by flashing their headlights or high beams at you? And for LEO's that happen to read this, what's your take on it? You know it's happening and given the opportunity to "speak" to a "Paul Revere", what would you say to them? ;)
Y'all have a safe weeknd and holiday week coming up out there on the highways. I just pondered the question as I saw several traffic stops recently where the "Paul Revering" (is this even a valid word) was being exercised in pretty good numbers by motorists.

me too... it's more of a "pay attention" thing. most people do occasionally speed, by accident. but there's a time and a place for enjoying your machinery, and it's not around other people. if i see someone blatantly doing way over, i don't warn them. i flash twice, and if they flash me, i just do the southern wave out the roof.

Paul Revere is clever, but it certainly implies it is a good thing to do and ties the law with the oppressive British of ole.
I would love to see speed limits get real, and us all drive by them, and automatic recorders on our cars reporting to ground monitors. Pay a fine by mail and NO insurance increases, just like the camera lights that changed my behavior in Knightdale.
How does Cary benefit from traffic tickets? The fines go to the WCPSS. The court costs don't go to the police department.

Doesn't seem to be as popular here as it is in YankeeLand, but maybe it'll catch on. Especially with court *costs* running around $120.00 or so. What revenue!!
