When my mother first got lung cancer in '92, the doc said that he could stop it with chemo & radiation. He was giving us false hope & I knew it. She died 6 months later & had poor quality of life due to the treatments. Here is the kicker, when the same dr. got cancer a few years after my mothers death, he committed suicide.

To me, I want to know the full story. The pro's & con's of the situation. I respect the bed side manners, but I want the truth.

the doctors told my father how long he had to live...he elected not to tell the family....my father not the doctor.

If detected early enough, pancreatic cancer usually has only one best shot, remove the pancreas, you can live without it.

A couple years ago my mother-in-law passed from pancreatic cancer. My grandfather was diagnosed with PC as well, told him he had less than 30 days, however, they caught it VERY early, they removed his pancreas and now he is still kicking over 15 yrs later. You never know when or what "the end" will be for you.

My doctor was wonderful during The Big C talk. I told her not to sc rew around, and she didn't. Do not like your doctor? Change him/her.

I don't have a lot of personal family experience to draw on.... however, I used to do a lot of visiting church members - it's my opinion that they usually know without being told........

I agree that doctors should be totally honest with people about their health... we have a family member now, who is very bad off, and yet, the doctors are still providing false (my opinion) hope to the family. I stronly suggest that if your doctors keep changing your treatments because you aren't responding to it- seek a second opinion!

This is something that really jerks my chain. When my mother was dying of pancreatic cancer the Dr would NOT give us any answers. We did not know what to plan for or how long it would take or when we should expect to get hospice. In fact, within a week of her dying he was still spouting treatment options.

My sister, who had a daughter with severe birth defects, was pretty good at dealing with Drs. but was unsuccessful with this individual. Finally one of his colleagues gave us the story. We were very mad at this doctor. My advice to him is to stay away from my sister at all costs. The point is people need to hear the truth. Don’t keep patients and families in the dark. They need to remember they are no better than the rest of us.
