carnival ride collapses in california; 24 injured

A carnival ride spinning with people collapsed at a county fair Friday night, injuring all 24 people aboard.
Yea, I am printing this out and keeping in my pocket at any carnival we go to! That way, I can show it to whoever decides to tell me "Its ok that they install these rides in a matter of minutes while smoking a cigarette and God-knows whatelse".
I will just have to be a MEAN mommy!

And the engineering specs are astounding. For instance, you know the ride where you sit in a chair attached to an upper arm by four chains while you spin around? Each one of those four chains by itself is required to be fully load bearing so even if three should snap, the remaining one will carry you to safety.
