In Wake County, 17 percent of high school dropouts are Hispanic, but a new English language boot camp aims to reverse the trend.

Sorry. . .I have to interject. It was not open borders. It was the INS. They were here on expired visas. . .That's how well our filtering process works. (I am not a proponent of open borders, rather good immigration reform). Radical extremists got 3000 killed.

con amor TELL ME WHO SHOULD PAY FOR ALL THESE ILLEGALS WHO COME IN THE BACK DOOR AND DEMAND THE KITCHEN SINK. WHO SHOULD PAY THE BILLS FOR ALL THIS. I SAY WE SEND A BILL TO ALL THE COUNTRIES THESE ILLEGALS ARE COMING FROM. I KNOW ENGLISH WILL NEVER BE THE ONLY LANGUAGE SPOKEN HERE. BUT WHY SHOUD TYHE AMERICAN TAXPAYER HAVE TO PAY FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE HERE ILLEGALLY HAVE TO PAY TO TEACH PEOPLE TO COMMUNITE IN A LANGUAGE WE SPEAK IN THIS COUNTRY.

strallen... so what you are saying is that you think that they should teach their self english, and then go to school? What the ....?? This makes absolutly ZERO sense!!! ZERO!!! If you want to live where English is the ONLY language spoken, then go to England! And guess what, they will tell you that what you are speaking now, AINT ENGLISH EITHER!

con amor WE SPEAK ENGLISH IN THIS COUNTRY WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO TEACH ENGLISH TO SOMEONE WHO IS IN OUR ENGLISH SPEAKING SCHOOLS. HAVING TO PAY TEACHERS WHO COULD BE TEACHING MATH, SCIENCE. HISTORY. INSTEAD HAVING TO TEACH PEOPLE WHO SHOULD ALREADY KNOW ENGLISH.

Just dropping in for a second. . .In the history of our country. . .when ethnic groups of people come here they still speak their language. In New York city alone there were Italian speaking neighborhoods, Irish neighborhood. . .there are still to this day Hewbre neighborhoods. My grandmother immigrated here as a child with her parents. My greatgrandparents never spoke a lick of English. The kids did for them. This is how it has been with immigrants. Some eventually losse their native language all together after a few generations. Some continue being bilingual. My father lives in New York. . .very close to a Jewish hasidim. . .they have there own public schools all of there street signs and building signs are not in English. . .It takes all kinds.

strallen...that makes no sense. What does one go to school for?? To LEARN! What are teachers and schools for?? To TEACH! So you think that because someone does not yet speak English, that they do not have the right to learn?!?

con amor yes my church has spanish services. I don't protest that. they have a right to worship as I do. I am not saying I don't have anything against people talking in their native tounge what I do have a problem with is that we have teacheres in an English SPEAKING country who are getting paid to teach a subject to students who should already to be able to speak english if they are in a US school.
