interesting tidbits of not-so-common knowledge.

Published Jan. 30, 2008

It never ceases to amaze me at the things that some people know that consider it common knowledge, but isn't so common after all. Little things like knowing the sound of a cicada as they sing at night. How to tell what sex a deer is by looking at the print it leaves behind. Just different things about lots of different things. Being where I live I have even gotten to the point where I can tell what is walking through the woods just by hearing it. One thing I have always enjoyed are flashlights, the brighter the better. One day a while back I shined a flashlight out in my yard and saw the little twinkles I always thought was dew or something like that. Instead of guessing I followed the reflections thinking how much it looked like the reflection of the eyes of an animal, but knowing there was no way one could be in the grass like that and be that tiny. Turns out the reflections are spiders, their eyes reflecting the light from my flashlight. I thought it was interesting, considering the distance at which you can see them. Quite a distance considering their size. I have showed and told many people about this, and have yet to find one that knew it.

What do you know that you find others don't, or just find incredible?

Here's another tidbit - the golo editors in their infinite wisdom will not allow the word crracker to be spelled correctly. I wonder it they are willing to post the list of no-no words?

Haha, thanks, His...not too many people would catch that reference!!

ROFL@Sue....you should read through Slayer's latest blog, there is another comment you might enjoy.

"One has the car mangled around them and walks away with nothing but scratches"

That would usually be the drunk.

I find it amazing just how resilient, yet fragile, the human body is. You can take two people and have an accident occur. One has the car mangled around them and walks away with nothing but scratches while the other barely taps their head and dies. Same with illnesses. One person can be so sick that they are in ICU for a month yet completely recover, while another comes down with what seems to be a routine cold and they are dead by morning. Some people feel extreme pain at the slightest stimulus; others can get blown up and be completely calm and cogent.

We really are amazing creatures.

Historian, that's really interesting about the string. I do, I LOVE this kind of stuff!

His, no comment

It's to early for a "lifesaver" on a weekday{;o)

At the turn of the century sales were down, so as a promtion to boost sales during the Christmas season they put the string on the box and made them in Green and Red boxes so they could be hung on the Christmas Trees. It was so popular they just left it like that.

Sometimes they are lifesavers ain't they!
