golo bookclub discussion

Published Dec. 4, 2007

Greetings fellow GoLo Bookclub members!! It's time for our discussion of The Dead Guy Interviews by Micahel A. Stusser. I hope you had as much fun as I did reading this month's selection.

The questions are quick and simple:

Which character did you enjoy reading about the most and why?

What (if anything) did you discover about our "dead guys" that you did not know before?

If you had the chance to interview your own favorite "dead guy or gal" who would it be and what would you ask them?

That's it!!! Now lets get started with the discussion and have fun!

OK Dolly. I could get down interviewing Elvis too. King Arthur might be interesting but Cinderella would rock!! Think of all those "step" stories and happily ever with the Prince :)

Ooh, suzie123, I like those questions. I'd like to know why she married Onassis, too. She was already wealthy, and she was already accustomed to a jet-set lifestyle, so I have to think it was for more than the money. Perhaps he was just a good companion? Or maybe it was true love; with Kennedy's purported affairs, she probably felt left out of the marriage. She did have style, too. It would be hard to walk in her shoes as a first lady.

rah-rah, again I say that I loved this book. I laughed when Stusser asked Lincoln if he was intimate with other men, and Lincoln admitted to "snuggling" for warmth. I loved how he first spoke to Willy Shakespeare, "Good fortnight, honey-tongued scribe, what a pleasure to meet thou!" and Shakespeare replied, "Hey. How ya doin'?" OMG, that was funny.

I thought that, as an artist myself, that I would be more drawn to the artists (Michaelangelo, Dali, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Frida Kahlo, Mozart, Poe, van Gogh, Oscar Wilde), but I found the political figures to be just as enjoyable. And Stusser's dialogue with them was a riot. Like when Michaelangelo replied once, he started with, "When I was a bambino."

If I could interview anybody, dead or alive, perhaps my list would be: Freddie Mercury, Elvis, Gertrude Stein, Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn Manson, King Arthur, Bob Fosse, King Tut, Steve Martin, Cinderella, and Chaucer.

rah-rah- now I will be singing, "Chaka Khan, let me rock you Let me rock you, Chaka Khan" all day today. LOL. My co-workers will think I'm crazy...as usual.

Thanks for entering in the discussion lbroyal. I thought the book was funny also. When the interviewer asked "Ghengis Kahn" if he was related to Chaka Kahn.... I just fell over laughing :)

Suzie123...I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. I also felt like I learned something about each of the people "interviewed". What a humorous way to review history. Jackie would be a wonderful choice to interview.

This book is a lot of fun to read; especially since one learns actual information about a famous person. It was a refresher course in past history along with humor. I really enjoyed reading about Mae West. I thought of her as an actress and did not know she also was a writer. This story, and others about women, made me appreciate that I live in this century.

I would interview Jackie Kennedy, as I admire her intellect, grace and humor. Questions would be, who inspired you to continue your education, in a time when most women did not complete college, and take a job at a newspaper? Describe a few of your earlier dates with John Kennedy? And why did you marry Onassis?

thinking about your questions, rah-rah, and will write back this afternoon. LOVED this book.

It's hard to only pick out one favorite, many of these were pretty funny.

I think I liked most of the interviews involving someone french. For some reason it just seemed like there were more jokes with those like Coco Chanel and Napolean Boneparte...(spelling?).

geez I need to start reading more...sorry but I didn't read this book :-( but sounds very interesting
