building a home
Published Jul 19, 2007OK, so on a lighter note, we have embarked on an exciting adventure. We have purchased some acreage and will be moving the "family farm house" onto the property to rennovate and live in. I'm very excited about this. As a kid, we moved a lot and grass didn't grow under my feet. Home was where ever we happened to hang a hat. The history of this house alone is huge to me. It's a house built by my husbands great-grandfather and grandfather. When we finally get moved in, my kids will be the 5th generation!
People tell us we're nuts, that we are in over our heads. Maybe so, maybe not. We're pretty resilient. People told us the same things when we went into business for ourselves. But so far, things have gone fairly easy. I've learned that the best bet is to ASK. People are always willing to answer questions, especially at the permit office. Inspectors have sat down with us in advance and given us suggestions and guidance.
I'm very much looking forward to the day we move in. We've met our new neighbors and they are very nice! Plus, it's in the country! Nice and quiet.

What a beautiful home. You know you have quite a *chore* in front of you, getting all the details worked out, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Just being able to live in a house with family history behind it is rare these days.

"What do you mean they are going to tear it down?" I asked is horror. The old family home is on a valuable piece of commercial property, I know, but the idea of tearing that beautiful home down to build a store??? It's unimaginable. The history and memories that encompass that home. It MUST be preserved. ...And thus the story began!
