GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A family of four was fortunate to escape an intense fire that encompassed much of their house on Tuesday morning.

According to officials, the house's smoke alarms were partially responsible for helping the family escape the flames. The alarm woke the two adults and two children from their sleep around 12:45 a.m.

Officials said when they arrived there were flames showing from the attic, and within 12 minutes the entire house was up in flames. The roof even collapsed in some spots.

Photos sent by a neighbor show just how large the flames were.

There were no injuries, according to officials. However, they said the home is a total loss.
