DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham neighborhood woke up to flashing lights early Thursday morning, while police were on the scene for hours investigating a shooting that left a man dead.

Officers responded to a reported gunshot wound around 1:33 a.m. to a home in the 3400 block of Old Chapel Hill Road, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Samuel Carr was pronounced deceased at the scene. Carr was 43 years old.

Mary Dilliner looked back at memories of her friend Sam Carr.

"He just had this aura about him. You could feel how special he was," Dilliner said of her late friend.

Dilliner described Carr as one of those people you just want to be around.

"He made such an impact on me," she said. "I reached out to you because I did not want him to be forgotten."

Investigators were on the scene overnight determining the circumstances.

Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident.
