Four injured in head-on collision in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Four people were injured following a crash Tuesday afternoon in Fayetteville.

Authorities said a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Edward L. Smith, 51, collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Joel M. Jones, 31, on Hope Mills Road near Cottonwood Drive at about 4:45 p.m.

Smith was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday night.

Jones, and two passengers in his Jeep, identified as Allison Gaither, 26, and Tyler J. West, 24, were also taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Jones and Gaither were listed in fair condition while West was listed in critical condition.

Hope Mills Road was closed for more than two hours Tuesday evening as police investigated the crash.

Authorities did not say if charges would be filed in connection with the crash.
