RALEIGH, N.C. — First Lady Jill Biden made her way to North Carolina Friday with stops in the Triad and the Triangle.

Her motorcade went to a neighborhood in North Raleigh, where she spoke at a private fundraising event.

WRAL was the only local news outlet granted access to the Raleigh event.

Jill Biden spoke to nearly 100 people for a private fundraiser at a couple's home. NC hasn't voted for a Democratic president since 2008.

The Biden campaign wants to change that and flip NC blue

"It's immensely significant. It means everyone understands that NC is in play," Jonah Garson, NC Democratic Party's first Vice Chair, said.

Biden's visit to NC started in Winston Salem at Forsyth Tech Community College -she touted how the president's economic policies are a benefit for Americans.

Jonah Garson, first vice chair of the NC Democratic Party -says now is the time to engage voters across the state.

"North Carolina with the right plan, the right effort, is imminently flippable and we're seeing the investments accordingly," Garson said.

During the First Lady's speech, she mentioned the competitive nature of winning NC, adding how her husband was one point away from winning the state in 2020.

Biden told the crowd, "Our campaign is going to do everything we can to make up that one point and more."

"The Biden track record is not good for NC families," Michael Whatley, Chair, NC GOP, said.

Michael Whatley, Chairman of the NCGOP, opposed President Biden's leadership.

He says his party is amping up its ground game to ensure NC votes RED come November.

"Republicans are putting solutions on the table and that's why we continue to win, despite the fact this is a battleground state," Whatley said

NC Capitol Bureau Chief Laura Leslie says 'messaging' will be a key strategy in the presidential election.

"It's been close the last couple of elections, so there's still a possibility that the democrats can pull this out if they can inform the electorate and inform the young people here what the Biden administration has been up to the last four years," Laura Leslie, NC Capitol Bureau Chief said.

First Lady Biden's appearance marks the first fundraising event for the Biden-Harris campaign in NC.
