Emergency crews are responding to a fire Sunday night in Raleigh.

According to authorities, the fire started on the fourth floor of the parking garage near Stanhope Apartments on Hillsborough Street.

"I heard someone on the phone say a car was on fire," Abby Gordon said. "That's when I was like, 'Oh, so, this is like very serious,' and got worried."

It wasn't just one car, according to fire crews.

"It started with one vehicle [and] spread to three vehicles, with pretty severe damage," Division Chief Jake Corker said. "[The] cause is considered to be a mechanical failure. Accidental. Nothing incendiary at this point."

Crews put the fire out within in an hour of responding to the call, then worked to get air quality back under control.

The apartment ordered all residents to evacuate the building as a precaution. People have since returned to their apartments

While many students anxiously waited to return to their cars to survey the damage, there were, fortunately, no injuries.
