CARY, N.C. — A family is in mourning Thursday after a woman was fatally struck by a car while crossing a Cary intersection earlier this week.

WRAL News spoke with the victim's brothers, who currently live in Florida.

According to them, Amy Delettre was not just a great sister but also a cherished friend and, at times, even assumed the role of a mother figure, displaying deep care for everyone in her life.

Known for her passion for sports, enthusiasm for comic cons, and unapologetically opinionated nature, Amy's personality was a unique blend of greatness.

Known for her passion for sports, enthusiasm for comic cons, and unapologetically opinionated nature, Amy's personality was a unique blend of greatness.

"Fiercely passionate. I think that would be an accurate way to describe her," Brian Delettre, Amy Delettre's brother, said.

Amy grew up in Florida and moved to Raleigh in 2015.

"She really loved her 9 years in North Carolina. and really called it home," Cody Delettre, Amy Delettre's brother said.

However, her time in the place she loved was cut short on Monday.

"It's honestly been the longest week of our life. It's incredible, it's only Thursday, it feels a lot longer," Brian said.

Amy was crossing an intersection when she was hit by a car.

She was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries -- at just 37 years old.

"I don't want to accept it. I don't want to accept she's gone," Cody said.

The heartbreak comes as her brothers are still grieving the loss of their dad, who died in August.

"It doesn't feel real; none of it feels real," Cody said.

Going forward, they say they'll carry on by loving anyone and everyone – just like she did.

"We're not promised tomorrow or the next 10 minutes, so just making sure building on relationships well because of her, into the future," Brian said.

The 82-year-old driver who hit her is facing death by motor vehicle charge.

He stayed at the scene while the investigation was taking place.

Amy's brothers say they're praying for him, too.
