RALEIGH, N.C. — The family of a fallen Raleigh police officer will receive additional benefits.
According to the Raleigh Police Protective Association, Officer Gabe Torres’ murder was determined to be in the line of duty.
According to the association, the determination of Torres’ death will help his family get additional benefits.

Torres' wife, Jasmin Lynn Esteves-Torres, commented on the police union's post.

"What a long road it has been, that's for sure," Esteves-Torres said. "Glad we are finally here."

In April, state lawmakers proposed House Bill 363, known as the Gabe Torres Act. The act would expand death benefits for public safety workers who are killed “en route to, engaged in, or returning from duty or training," closing a loophole that prevents the Torres family from receiving those benefits.
As of Wednesday, the bill is in committee.

Torres is remembered as a family man, a doting husband and the sweetest dad, according to his obituary.
