DURHAM, N.C. — A death investigation is underway after three men were found dead inside a motel room in Durham Sunday morning.

At 10:16 a.m., officers responded to a cardiac arrest call in the 4600 block of South Miami Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found four men who were unresponsive inside a room at the Extended Stay. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded and attempted life-saving measures. Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The fourth victim was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Police are awaiting the medical examiner's report and toxicology results to determine the causes of death.

Jennifer Tempest, who has lived at motel for two and a half years, said it was a shock to see all the police cars and emergency vehicles in the parking lot in the morning.

"They just kept coming for, like, two hours," Tempest said. "I really didn't expect it, nobody saw anything. It was just kinda like business as usual other than the fact that there were police everywhere."

Police did not remove the bodies from the hotel until Sunday afternoon.

A cause of death has not been determined at this time.

Police said this appears to be an isolated incident and foul play is not suspected at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Investigator D. Bussell at 919-560-4582 ext. 29254 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
