Durham officer involved in crash at U.S. 70 and Leesville Road

Durham police are investigating a crash involving one of their officers on Friday afternoon.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating a crash involving one of their officers on Friday afternoon.

Around 3:15 pm, officers responded to a crash near the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and Leesville Road.

An initial investigation found the officer was making a left turn onto U.S.70 from Leesville Road when the officer was hit by another vehicle.

Both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Second Durham police crash in two days

A Durham police cruiser collided with a minivan at the intersection of Mangum and Morgan streets on Thursday, marking the second such incident involving a Durham officer in two days.

The crash, which occurred shortly before noon, resulted in the police vehicle ending up inside a nearby restaurant.

The minivan driver, 48-year-old Lisa Camargo-Cruz, received citations for driving without insurance and violating a red light.
