Durham firefighters rescue unresponsive man at 80 feet at construction site

Durham firefighters rescued an unresponsive man 80 feet high on a crane Monday morning.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham firefighters rescued an unresponsive man 80 feet high on a crane Monday morning.

The rescue occurred in the 300 block of Liberty Street around 9 a.m. when construction teams were working on a building.

Workers said a man who was not affiliated with their team was laying on a platform and not responding.

Durham fire, police and EMS workers work to bring down a man who was unresponsive at a construction site on Monday morning.

It's not known how the man was injured, but crews believed it was from falling. He was breathing, despite not being responsive.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach the man. Others got to the man by climbing the crane.

Firefighters moved the man to a basket on the outside of the crane structure and lowered him to the ground. The man was taken to the hospital.

Durham police and Durham County EMS helped with the rescue effort.
