Durham apartment goes up in flames

At 2 p.m., the Durham Fire Department was dispatched to reported structure fire in the 1500 block of Sima Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, smoke and flames could be seen coming out of the front door of an apartment at the end of the row.

Durham apartment goes up in flames

DURHAM, N.C. — One person escaped safely after an apartment went up in flames Wednesday afternoon in Durham.

At 2 p.m., the Durham Fire Department was dispatched to reported structure fire in the 1500 block of Sima Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke and flames could be seen coming out of the front door of an apartment at the end of the row.

The person inside the apartment was able to get out safely and was treated by Durham County EMS. The American Red Cross is assisting that person with lodging. 

The fire is currently under investigation.
