UPDATE: The event is sold out!

Residence Inn Raleigh Downtown will open its rooftop bar a couple of weeks early for the solar eclipse on Monday.

Tickets are $10 each for the party, which is 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, at the hotel bar, called 10th & Terrace. Tickets include those hard-to-find NASA-approved eclipse safety glasses, desserts from lucettegrace and a complimentary Sunshine energy drink. The bar also will be open for adult beverages (and I have confirmed with organizers that the event is open to all, including kids and families).

On Monday, as the moon passes in front of the sun, the Triangle will experience a partial solar eclipse around 2:45 p.m. About 93 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon. To safely view the partial eclipse, you'll need to use NASA-certified safety glasses. You also can make your own pinhole viewer and take in the eclipse at other events across the Triangle.

10th & Terrace officially opens to the public on Sept. 1. Tickets for the eclipse event are limited to just 50 for this one and I expect they will go fast! (There will be no refunds on this event if the weather is bad, but you can still stop by, check out the view and nosh on some lucettegrace (a favorite of mine!).

RaleighFoodandWine.com has more information and ticket details on its website. The hotel is at 616 S. Salisbury St., downtown Raleigh.
