SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A bridge over Interstate 95 in Johnston County wasn't damaged Friday when a boat on a flatbed trailer got stuck under it, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The boat became wedged under the bridge that carries Brogden Road over I-95 (Exit 93) in Smithfield shortly before noon, DOT said.

A boat on a trailer was stuck under a bridge over Interstate 95 in Smithfield on Nov. 9, 2018.

One of two northbound lanes on the highway had to be closed until the boat could be freed and inspectors could check the bridge for damage.

The lane was reopened by 1:30 p.m.
