CARY, N.C. — A Cary man accused of threatening to shoot children at a daycare had previously threatened President Joe Biden and other national figures, according to court documents.

The threats, made in October to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, appeared to target Bright Horizons, a day care center across the street from the motel where Douglas lived.

Court documents filed Wednesday allege Douglas also threatened to kill the president, Vice President Kamala Harris, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and former First Lady Michelle Obama months before his Cary arrest.

Douglas used the White House website to make the threats against U.S. officials in August and September, according to documents.

In a November news conference following Douglas' arrest, U.S. Attorney Michael Easley, Jr. addressed the threats against children, explaining the fact that Douglas was so close to a daycare "raised our level of concern."

Easley said there is no reason to believe the threat was credible, and no weapons were seized when investigators searched Douglas' motel room.

A judge later declared Douglas, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, unfit for trial and ordered him to undergo four months of treatment. Douglas is not due in court again until April.
