Deputies hospitalized during hazmat situation Tuesday in Garner
Two deputies responded to a home in Garner after receiving a call of a person trying to harm themselves. When they arrived, the responding deputies encountered an "unknown chemical smell" while encountering the person.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to a home on the 200 block of Marsh Creek Drive in connection to a person attempting to harm themselves.
When they arrived, the responding deputies encountered an “unknown chemical smell” while encountering the person. Fire and EMS also responded to the home with a hazmat team.
Authorities took the deputies to the hospital as a precaution, and they have not identified the chemical.
Authorities took the person to the hospital without incident.
