Deadline to apply for FEMA's Florence disaster assistance extended to Dec. 19
The deadline to apply for Florence disaster assistance has been extended six days to Dec. 19, and Gov. Roy Cooper is urging North Carolinians to seek aid.
Posted — UpdatedMore than $1 billion has been approved to aid North Carolinians affected by the storm. The money included FEMA grants to individuals and households along with National Flood Insurance Program payments, the U.S. Small Business Administration loans to local businesses, as well as other forms of assistance.
The governor's office also added that more North Carolinians could receive aid, but they must apply.
Originally, the deadline to apply for the disaster assistance program was Thursday, Dec. 13. But, it was extended Cooper's request.
“Applying with FEMA is the key to getting help with short-term housing and long-term recovery,” Governor Cooper said. “If you suffered from Florence and have waited to ask for help, don’t wait any longer. Sign up with FEMA today.”
Victims of the Hurricane with uninsured losses can apply for aid by following of one the steps below:
- Call the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 (TTY) from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. multilingual operators are available.
- Go online to DisasterAssistance.gov.
- Download the FEMA mobile app.
- Visit a Disaster Recovery Center. To find center locations and hours, go online to FEMA.gov/DRC, or download the FEMA mobile app or the ReadyNC app.
