CARRBORO, N.C.Coronato, a new pizza place from Chef Teddy Diggs, will open Thursday.

Coronato Pizza, opening in a new space in Carrboro's South Green shopping center on Two Hills Drive, will serve up thin-crust, crunchy-style pizza created from Diggs' secret dough recipe. The menu will also include snacks, seasonal antipasti, craft beer, prosecco on tap and select Italian wines.

Diners will find creative options on the menu, like proscuitto and melon, fava falafel, a popular Egypt street food made with dried fava beans, and cacio e pepe fries, which are kettle chips topped with cheese.

The thin, crispy Roman-style pizza will feature new ingredients too. The il Verde, a pizza topped with charred broccoli, Italian mozzarella and fresh basil, is a favorite of Diggs' youngest daughter, the chef said.

Dessert options will include tiramisu, lemon-ricotta bomboloni (doughnuts tossed in sugar), fresh fruit salad and a special Videri Chocolate bar that may contain a golden ticket for a free pizza. The full menu is available online.

Diggs, who moved to Chapel Hill with his wife and two daughters in 2014, was most recently the executive chef at Il Palio in Chapel Hill.

He left in June 2018 to pursue Coronato.
