BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. — Coast Guard crews have located the bodies of a couple who went missing in the Pamlico River Friday.

Officials said they suspended the search for the couple Sunday morning after the 72-year-old woman and 70-year-old man were recovered in the river near North Creek and Oyster Creek.

Authorities said the couple was last seen departing Potters Marine in Beaufort County early Friday afternoon.

Coast Guard officials received a call at about 6:40 p.m., saying that an unmanned boat was found in the Pamlico River.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones today,” said Captain Bion Stewart, commander of Coast Guard Sector North Carolina. “We are deeply saddened by the outcome, and we will continue to pray for the families during this most difficult time. I also want to commend all of the crews, including our partner agencies and the volunteers who worked diligently to conduct the search.”
