GARNER, N.C. — A serious crash brought down power lines in Garner on Tuesday and kept a major road closed for most of the day.

The crash occurred around 10 a.m. at Jones Sausage Road and S. New Hope Road. Jones Sausage Road was closed between Drayford Way and Parrish Manor Drive early Tuesday evening.

Photos showed a car flipped on Jones Sausage Road and brought down main distribution lines. Police said the car had run off the road and hit a pole.

The driver of the car was transported to Wake Med Hospital with minor injuries.

Crews at the scene said it was time-consuming to lift the power lines above the damaged pole that was struck to put them on a new pole.

Crews said that they could be working until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Meredith Archie, spokeswoman for Duke Energy, said about 900 customers were affected.
