RALEIGH, N.C. — The International Bluegrass Music Association announced Wednesday that legendary bluegrass artists Del McCoury and Jim Lauderdale will host the awards show held during the five-day September event.

The International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass, which takes place Sept. 24-28, features conferences, showcases, the awards show and the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival, or seven stages of music around downtown Raleigh and free performances by premier bluegrass artists at Red Hat Amphitheater.

The awards show, now in its 30th year, will be held on Sept. 26 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. With the help of McCoury and Lauderdale, the music community will highlight musical achievements of the year and honor new Hall of Fame inductees.

"It is sure to be a fun and memorable evening with unforgettable performances by awards nominees," Paul Schiminger, executive director of the IBMA, said. "This is the biggest night in bluegrass music."

The event comes just months after McCoury's 80th birthday. McCoury, a Hall of Famer and two-time Grammy winner, has won the IBMA's “Entertainer of the Year” award a record-setting nine times. DelFest, an annual bluegrass music festival in Cumberland, Maryland, was even named for him.

McCoury's co-host, Lauderdale, is a Nashville songwriter and two-time Grammy winner in the process of releasing his tenth bluegrass album.

Last year, organizers announced that World of Bluegrass will remain in Raleigh until 2021 -- at least. Since the festival moved to Raleigh in 2013, Mayor Nancy McFarlane said the festival has attracted nearly 860,000 attendees and generated a $48 million economic impact in the city.
