RALEIGH, N.C. — Tuesday is the last day of a bitterly cold trend, and anyone spending time outside should bundle up in layers, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Temperatures were a few degrees lower Tuesday morning than they were early Monday, but Gardner said it was difficult to feel the difference.

“You get into the teens, and can you really tell the difference between 8 and 15?” Garner said. “Probably not so much.”

Moore County Schools delayed the start of classes for students by two hours on Tuesday morning because of the cold.
White flags at area homeless shelters on Monday night signaled that all were welcome to seek a warm place to sleep.

The good news was there wasn't the same intense windchill that made this week feel even colder.

The day started with temperatures in the teens and 20s; it was 18 degrees in Raleigh, 12 degrees in Henderson, 20 degrees in Durham and 17 degrees in Wilson.

Temperatures will likely rise to the low 30s by lunchtime.

Wednesday morning will also be in the low 30s, but temperatures will climb up to 60 by the afternoon as a warm front makes its way across the country.

Thursday will also have temperatures in the 60s, but it will be rainy.

Once the warm front moves out, temperatures drop into the 40s for the weekend. Skies will be sunny with only some clouds.
