A dozen Rite Aid stores closing in the Triangle, 7 staying open

Now that Walgreens has purchased over 1,900 Rite Aid stores, they have announced a number of local Raleigh area store closings in the next few weeks. Read on for the list of stores shutting down and those remaining a Rite Aid.

Now that Walgreens has purchased 1,932 Rite Aid stores and 3 distribution centers for $4.375 billion, they have announced a number of Rite Aid store closings in the Triangle region of North Carolina.

Fiona Ortiz, Director of Financial Communications and CSR Reporting at Walgreens Boots Alliance, confirmed that Walgreens acquired 38 stores in the Triangle and that more than 20 of those will be closing. She did not have an exact number at this time. Some of the remaining Rite Aid stores will become Walgreens stores, including the store at 1333 5th Avenue, Garner, NC.

The stores will initially close their pharmacies and then the remainder of the store will close a couple weeks later. Below you can see the a list of the stores that will be closing, as well as the closing date of the pharmacies.

Some stores, including the Rite Aid at 2311 Timber Drive in Garner, NC have already permanently closed. This store shut down in mid-June.

Regarding the employees who will be losing their jobs when the Rite Aid stores close, Ortiz indicated that Walgreens is committed to finding the same position or a comparable position for those employees.

Rite Aid Stores That Are Closing

Cary:

2711 Jones Franklin Road, Cary, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 30.

Chapel Hill:

1129 Weaver Dairy Road, Chapel Hill, NC. The pharmacy wil be closing July 11.

1800 East Franklin St., Chapel Hill, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 17.

Durham:

3798 Guess Road, Durham, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 16.

1311 W. NC 54, Durham, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 23.

101 Woodcroft Road, Durham, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 24.

Raleigh:

8005 Fayetteville Road, Raleigh, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 17.

8841 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 18.

5631 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 25.

2850 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 31.

13300 Strickland Road, Raleigh, NC. The pharmacy will be closing August 2.

Zebulon:

320 N Arendell Ave., Zebulon, NC. The pharmacy will be closing July 26.

Rite Aid Stores That Are Staying Open

According to Ashley Flower, Senior Manager, Public Relations at Rite Aid Corporation, there are 7 Rite Aid stores in the region that were retained by Rite Aid and will remain open as a Rite Aid store.

The Rite Aid stores staying open include locations in Clayton, Goldsboro, Holly Springs, Mount Airy, Rocky Mount, Tarboro and Wilson.

Flower also indicated that customers should have received letters regarding the status of their Rite Aid recently.
