CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Linda's Bar and Grill on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill will close its doors permanently Friday, restaurant representatives confirmed to WRAL Tuesday.

The restaurant has been in operation for 47 years. The Daily Tar Heel was the first to report the news of the closure.

Linda's owner and chef Chris Carini started a GoFundMe for the business last year.

"In order to keep our people paid, the lights on, machines fixed, and the building up to code, etc., we need a bit of help. It feels like a burden worthy of asking my community for help with so we may continue into the future," Carini wrote at the time.

Carini said many of Linda's struggles were a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which left Linda's and other businesses struggling amid staffing shortages, lockdowns and inflation.

On Tuesday afternoon, Linda's GoFundMe page had raised more than $35,200 of a $135,000 goal.

Linda's, which stays open until 2 a.m. several nights a week, is frequented by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students and faculty and is a popular spot to watch games.

Friday will be its last day in business.
