61-year-old driver dies after I-95 tractor-trailer fire

The driver of a tractor-trailer who was severely burned Monday after the truck caught fire on Interstate 95 in Cumberland County had died, authorities said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The driver of a tractor-trailer who was severely burned Monday after the truck caught fire on Interstate 95 in Cumberland County has died, authorities said.

Gale Bernard Beasley, 61, of Clayton, was driving a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer around 6:30 p.m. when the vehicle ran off the road and traveled down an embankment, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The truck caught fire, and Beasley was severely burned.

Beasley was taken to the UNC Burn Center, but authorities said on Tuesday that he died from his injuries.
