27-year-old killed in shooting at Lumberton apartment, man charged with murder

A 27-year-old man was shot early Friday morning at an apartment in Lumberton, and another man is charged with murder.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — A 27-year-old man was shot early Friday morning at an apartment in Lumberton, and another man is charged with murder.

At 12:25 a.m., Lumberton police officers responded to a report of a person shot at 515 E 21st Street, which is the address of Godwin Avenue Apartments.

When officers arrived, they found Charles Bethea, 27, inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died before 7:30 a.m.

Bobby Desean Jones, 31, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was being held in the Robeson County Detention Center under no bond.
