Hundreds of law enforcement officers, family members, loved ones and community members gathered for an emotional processional and memorial for Joshua Eyer, one of four officers killed Monday in Charlotte when a man opened fire from a home as they were serving a warrant.

Four officers were killed Monday while trying to serve a warrant at an east Charlotte home. A total of eight officers were shot, according to police.

Authorities have identified Samuel "Sam" Poloche,  Joshua Eyer and William "Alden" Elliot and Thomas M. Weeks, Jr. as the four law enforcement officers who died in Monday's shooting in Charlotte.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the SBI is investigating after officers shot and killed a man on Saturday morning on Catherine-Simmons Avenue.

According to investigators, officers responded to a call of shots being fired along Katherine Simmons Avenue just after 6 a.m. on Saturday morning. When they arrived, officers, they located a man pointing a gun at another man C MP D chief Johnny Jennings says that his officers asked the man to drop the gun but he didn't. At some point, it is indicated that the individual did raise the firearm. Uh and officers at that time did fire multiple shots at the individual. Uh and later found that individual deceased inside of a residence, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Now looking into the shooting as its standard protocol when an officer is involved, Leandra Garrett with the alternatives to violence program devastated to hear about a deadly shooting within an area she grew up in. It's very heartbreaking because we canvass here every day and we work here every day. So nine times out of 10, we know exactly who it is that this and for neighbors who still live in the area like Cedric Dean, their concern on law enforcement's response stems from a lack of communication and understanding the area. We engage these people every day and we are here with them, but we cannot get the police to work with us. Both Garrett and Dean have a boots on the ground active approach and helping serve their community. And Dean believes that their work calls for more from city officials. We need them to start being proactive instead of reactive, right? You know, we need them to show this family down here that they really care about a mental health matter because mental health truly matters.
