DURHAM, N.C. — A person working for a contractor at the Wolfspeed facility in Durham has died from their injuries.

The person was seriously injured on the morning of July 17.

On Monday, a spokesperson with the North Carolina Department of Labor confirmed the person's death to WRAL News. The person's name was not released and the details over what caused the injury are not known.

The facility is on Silicon Drive. In October, a Wolfspeed employee died at the same facility. At that time, the Department of Labor cited Wolfspeed, a semiconductor chip manufacturer, with two serious violations.

A state spokesperson said the person worked for Southern Industrial Constructors Inc. The North Carolina Department of Labor is investigating the company.

Wolfspeed released a statement on the injury after stopping construction at the campus.

“Wolfspeed is deeply saddened to confirm that an individual working for a contractor was injured on our Durham, NC campus earlier this morning, and is currently receiving medical treatment. Construction has been halted campus-wide and the contractor has initiated their investigation into the incident. We will share more information as it becomes available.”

This is a developing story.
