PRINCETON, N.C. — A teacher and a student were injured when a barn at Princeton Middle/High School collapsed as the pair were prepping the building for dismantling, authorities said Wednesday.

Nathanael Shelton, a spokesperson for Johnston County Public Schools, identified the structure as an agricultural barn that was being dismantled on the campus of the school, located at 101 Dr. Donnie H Jones Jr. Blvd. W, when it collapsed.

The teacher and student were transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, the spokesperson said.

It was not immediately clear how the collapse occurred or why the building was being dismantled.

Yellow crime scene tape was erected around the area where the incident occurred as officials responded to the incident.
