RALEIGH, N.C. — Maybe you've organized your cabinets or closets while in quarantine. But have you gone deeper with chores while at home?

Here are a few things that don't make the normal to-do list, but can help homeowners save money in the long run.

First the toaster oven.

Making breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week may be taking a toll on it. It might be time to de-gunk.

After unplugging it, soak the racks in warm, soapy water and remove grease and food spatters. Use a thin paint brush to loosen any crumbs that are caught.

Next, the coffee maker.

Dried coffee oils and minerals inside the machine can ruin the taste.

To help, run equal parts water and vinegar through the coffee maker. Follow with plain water, several times.

Use baking soda and a damp sponge on any carafe and plate stains.

If boredom strikes, tackle the vacuum.

It's not fun, but is necessary.

Start with the filters. Washing them helps keep suction strong and keeps dirt from blowing back into the air.

Finally the windows.

Clean the glass, sills and frames. And know timing is key.

Sun heats up the window and may lead to streaks. A cloudy day is best to tackle the job.

Water, dish soap and a squeegee wiped after each pass should instantly improve the view.

Something else worth tackling, the air filters. Change them out and clean the vents to get rid of all that dust.
