going to meet with Governor Hopefully is we hand deliver a letter but more importantly I want to address some policy issues that need to be addressed One of the things that will be impacted is if workers catch this virus while it worked Worker's comp law should kick in since it would be a work related illness or injury way would like to talk to the governor about the importance of making sure that the workers were able to use worker's comp The other item is since over the last eight years state Legislature has cut the unemployment insurance workers are out due to this illness for long courage In time they should be able to use the unemployment insurance benefits And certainly there needs to be emergency regulations just for OSHA The Occupational Health and Safety Video Standards Way need very special emergency regulations to address all these concerns We're looking forward to speaking with the governor They're delivering this hand delivered the letter This is Nathan at Mayo She's the chair of our municipal council city workers So I just wanted to reiterate this is it It's important that all of these common sense measures are starting to weigh Want those to be put into place Most unions have collective bargaining agreements or they talk about you They have specific provisions around sick time around safety around whistleblower protections And now as we face this ever growing pandemic is important that these workers protections be expanded to all workers in North Carolina Uh industry is meeting now with government there will be a industry bailout That's what it looks like us We want workers to be bailed out and not left out This time it's up to us individually to collectively take responsibility to end this epidemic This mean workers who was sick should stay at home sick and companies should not punish workers who do stay at home sick or to take care of sick Children  The industry and government must create the funds necessary to ensure that workers continue to receive paychecks way in the North Carolina labor movements then ready to do our part and thank you all for coming out today Um one other thing that way are with the National Nurses Union with the Southern Workers Assembly in our fight for Medicare for all way Understand that if we had a universal health system universal health care system that workers would not have to choose between whether they are going to work or whether they will be concerned about meals But they do choose to go to the doctor that all of this would not be a question these things will automatically covered So this it shows us that Medicare for all or universal health care is something that way need to continue to fight for here in North Carolina and across the country and that there's something that's needed face serious pandemics like this Think this particular Electoral 2020 We're calling on our use calling on our unit's calling upon all candidates elected officials to pass resolutions calling for universal health care for all  And this Nathan that stated it's made even more parent with this presence of pandemic that's going on We're trying to set one up with yes well workers  The divorce workers made to sit at the table with people that make policy decisions because we're on the front line in the water Sewer plants in the mental health hospitals like Darren System that worked in water and sewer were on the front lines serving residents and citizens off this great state And without workers having a force we're not able to make sure that we provide safe and quality service is all the many citizens and residents of this great state so meeting there is very important and his many of y'all know many states have what we call collective bargaining rights for their public sector workers North Carolina has Section 95 98 which begs the right to collectively bargain for municipal state consecutive workers And right now there's no better time than to see the importance of Medicare for all need for collective bargaining  And certainly right now since we don't have collected watching rights at least exercise our right to meet him here  Under the executive order that Governor Cooper passed took office  state employees working for DHHS working at Central Regional Hospital which is Mental Health Hospital But we do have also medical doctors nurses and other people there too So basically you know people wanna have PP Personal protective equipment way worked with the most vulnerable people in our state We provide 24 7 care so we just want to make sure that we have the proper equipment to care for them to keep them safe and keep us safe to like we need in 95 Mass More gentle You know what we do have decompression rooms itself like that And what what decompression rooms do like this Just say if somebody called in a decompression room they follow straight to the floor is not here so that keep stuff from Sprint We need to make sure that vital environmental people environment service is people have to correct part cleaning equipment and things like that and that just just just is a whole state of North Carolina just puts their employees first so we can do our jobs And most effective of course I just talked about the Pee Pee Personal Protective Equipment also established a 14 minutes of money from 14 day sick leave That won't count against people's already sick leave so they don't have to make a choice of not coming to work in that Also basically cleaning other facilities making sure that you have enough environmental service is people have to pay the tithe make sure things are clean and sanitary Also just to make sure that people that are affected by this I'm able to get unemployment benefits so they won't lose a paycheck and that also that it won't count against them free child care for for health care workers that do have to go to work We are in central employees so just these are most important things No it's never too early We need to have these conversations You need to be proactive not reactive A lot of times here in the United States is since we don't have a lot of things happen We kind of cavalier about things and people don't think take things too seriously But this is a world endemic and I think we should have these conversations I think that we should be talking to the governor  Governor needs to talk to the employees of people that's in the buildings and know what's going on So we need to have that conversation with each other so we can work together no more Nobody is more important than the way all we all have a system that makes this thing work We all need to work together Putting things in place with this helps us prepare for the next time We all understand that this is not This will not be the last time that we have to face a crisis similar to this So going ahead and talking with workers on the front line developing policies development procedures Thio put into place to win something like this how it could be handled and how it could be handled successfully So it's important that all people all levels of workers managers Thio policymakers are involved in sitting down at the table to have these discussions I think the reason why the executive order was passed by Cooper that allows us to beat you here is because were organized five that represented over 5000 public sector workers It's very important to meet with workers who are organized workers organized then that fearful about raising very important questions of that impact our health and safety and the quality of service is that we deliver And it's very important that he meets with organizations such as the North Carolina Public Service Workers Union Do you want 50 that has 16 chapters or members and 16 locations around the state from the West Coast all the way to the East Coast from Asheville Winston Salem Charlotte Greensboro Caswell Cherry Hospital down in the ghost world Very important that he meets with us today are getting the temperature taking and stuff like that  If someone does come up where they might have a symptom of whatever you're directed straight to employee health employee health takes over from there as of right now No but there are precautions that the HHS has been taking to protect patients and our employees So as of right now this forest in my profession no as a right nail but knows what the future holds Okay well 11 thing I do need to reach needed touch One is cursed So a lot of workers are worried about occurrences counting against it So hopefully that way you get things in place that if a person does have to call out sick for whatever reason that they don't get in the current doesn't count against him And it turned Okay an occurrence is like uh let's say you're late  You call out sick what it is you might think  After three occurrences you get a verbal warning and after five maybe a written warning it Those are hooker's occurrences not terminated So I mean that's what occurrence occurs If you're late you call out sick things like that  Now what I will say is their DHHS has certain like illnesses that don't count against you But those are like extraordinary measures if you do contracting illnesses But in this case I believe that hopefully that we can come to an agreement that there'll be no occurrences because they are telling you to stay home if you're sick and not come to work So hopefully we won't have to deal with them or that employees won't have to worry about that Count against them Also we're hoping that the Family medical Leave Act won't kick in during this emergency You know many workers have other way Call of current illnesses Whether it's diabetes hypertension heart disease way Don't want no the family medical leave Act to kick in due to I'm meteorologist, Elizabeth G. Now we do have a level one risk for severe storms this afternoon starting at around five and moving out of the viewing area around eight. It will be a fairly narrow band of thunderstorms, but we will see some heavy rain and some blustery winds, possibly some wind damage with this. And it does cover the bulk of the viewing area for this afternoon. Check in futurecast this morning, we're waking up to cloudy skies. It may be that we see a few peaks of sunshine closer to lunchtime and then we see that band of rain moving on in. You can see at three o'clock, it starting to form up to our west at five o'clock. It's in our western counties from Roxboro to Durham to southern Pines. At around six o'clock. It's in the middle of the viewing area and by seven or eight it starts to push out. There might be an isolated shower in our southern counties after that, but it's really just going to be that one line that moves through. And then after that, we should be pretty much in the clear. We take a look at Saturday, Saturday Futurecast wants to start us off with a Sprinkle or two. But our chances for rain Saturday are really low. About 20%. We may see some sunshine breaking out during the afternoon, but Saturday should be a great day. Temperatures are going to be pleasant in the seventies and it does look dry on Sunday. We're looking at a chilly wet day and we'll go back to today and again, talk about that potential for rain mainly between five and 8 p.m. As that line moves through. We have gray skies this morning. Our temperatures are going to be climbing through the low and mid sixties for the next several hours up to around 70 by lunchtime around this afternoon. 83 in Raleigh, 82 in Durham and 86 in Fayetteville, a temperature whiplash that 83 today will turn into 59 on Sunday. So huge change, Sunday is going to be chilly gray and wet. We'll see an increasing chance for showers. So can we go from 83 to 59? And right in the middle, there is our normal at 74 we will see a cool Monday but then temperatures rebound into the seventies for Tuesday and Wednesday, we'll see variably cloudy skies. A little bit of sun peaking through Saturday with some cloud cover 78 and then 59 Sunday with an increasing chance of rain. I would expect it to be pretty wet during the afternoon. But again Saturday is looking just fine. The hurricanes play at five o'clock. If you're going to be tailgating in the parking lot ahead of that, temperatures will be in the mid seventies. So it should be pretty pleasant and it definitely looks dry again. Sunday's wet and chilly at 59. We have some chilly mornings ahead too. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday morning, all seeing overnight lows in the forties and it will be mild in the afternoon, especially say Wednesday. It looks lovely high of 77.
