DURHAM, N.C. — A 17-year-old driver was charged in a deadly hit-and-run crash on Saturday night in Durham.

Around 8 p.m., a man was crossing Holloway Street near Adams Street when he was struck by a vehicle.

Police said the driver of one of the vehicles, possibly a silver Chevrolet Cruze, drove away from the scene, heading east on Holloway Street.

The pedestrian, later identified as 64-year-old Jerry Evans Armstrong, of Durham, died at the scene.

A 17-year-old male was charged with multiple traffic-related charges. He was taken into custody and received a $100,000 unsecured bond.

Speed appears to be a factor in this crash.

The crash is under investigation.
