What’s up this weekend? A lot for families. Here’s what’s happening on the family fun front.

And don’t forget:

WRAL.com’s Out & About section lists more weekend activity ideas.
Our Summer Activities Guide covers more than 45 ideas to keep you busy this summer.

Raleigh

Sunflowers! Raleigh’s sunflower field at Dix Park were in peak bloom last week, but it’s still worth a visit. Find them at the Hunt Drive entrance at Dix Park.
The Kids Exchange, the massive children’s consignment sale, will take over two buildings at the NC State Fairgrounds and feature all of the kids’ clothes, toys and gear your children probably need. One big note: What you need to do before you go to this week's massive Kids Exchange consignment sale.
The N.C. Museum of Art closes its exhibit You Are Here on Sunday. This “experiential” exhibit offers lots of opportunities to experience and be part of art. It’s very kid friendly. Tickets are $9 for kids ages 7 to 18; $12 for seniors ages 65 and up; and $15 for ages 19 and up.
Women’s Theatre Festival’s first musical, Goblin Market, is on stage at Burning Coal Theatre downtown. This one is best for ages 6 and up because of “general spookiness.” There are some masked goblins making mischief during the show, I’m told. The show, which blends fantasy and fairy tale together with opera, ballet, a chamber orchestra and more, runs through Sunday. It’s presented in partnership with The Carolina Ballet and features a multi-age goblin dance troupe. Tickets are $25.
Raleigh Little Theatre opens Into the Woods Friday with shows on select days through Aug. 5. This musical pulls in storylines from Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and more. It’s presented by RLT’s Teens on Stage and Teens Backstage. Tickets start at $15.

Quail Ridge Books has a couple of events …

Local author Scott Reintgen will bring the second book of Nyxia Triad, his very popular science fiction young adult triology, to Quail Ridge at 7 p.m., Saturday. These books are best for ages 12 and up. This is a signing line ticket event, which means you must buy “Nyxia Unleashed” from Quail Ridge to get a ticket to get your book signed. It is free to attend.
And Robert Beatty, author of the New York Times best-selling Serafina series, brings his new series, “Willa of the Wood,” to Quail Ridge at 2 p.m., Sunday. This, again, is a signing line ticket event. Buy a copy of “Willa” from Quail Ridge to get a ticket to get it signed. Beatty's books are best for kids ages 9 to 12.

Durham

Durham Central Park will screen “The Sandlot,” rated PG, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, outside at the park. It’s free.

Chapel Hill

Orange County Partnership for Young Children is partnering with Kidzu Children’s Museum to host a Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Kick-Off. Parton’s Imagination Library distributes free books to kids under 5. The program recently was expanded to North Carolina. Starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, you can visit the group at the table set up outside of Kidzu to register your child to receive the free books. The first 100 children under 5 years of age to sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library can enjoy the museum for free. Children must live in Orange County to be eligible for free admission.
Sunday is Friends and Family at Ackland Art Museum from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. You’ll find art games, a scavenger hunt and other activities. It's free.

Carrboro

Saturday is Tomato Day at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. Starting at 8:30 a.m., find recipes, kids activities, live music, a raffle and a big variety of fresh, locally grown tomatoes to sample.

Cary

Booth Amphitheater’s summer outdoor movie series will feature “Cars 3” on Friday. Tickets are $5 and free for kids 12 and under. Movies start around 8:30 p.m. once the sun goes down. Lawn games start before the movie. Gates open at 7 p.m.
North Carolina FC will host Toronto FC II at 7 p.m., Saturday, at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Wake Forest

Author Jacqueline Leigh will bring her two picture books, “Time for Bed with Red and Fred” and “The Spill” to a special event from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, at Page 158 Books.

Zebulon

It’s Christmas in July at the Carolina Mudcats’ game on Friday evening with the Winston-Salem Dash. Santa will be in the house giving away Mudcats gifts. Fireworks also are scheduled after the game.
