The annual open house at the N.C. State University College of Veterinary Medicine is among the more popular family-friendly events around here. Now it's time to put it on your calendar.

It's 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., March 28, at the college off Hillsborough Street near its intersection with Blue Ridge Road. The event is designed for all ages - from toddlers who love animals to high schoolers interested in a career in animal sciences to adults who just want to know what's going on over there.

The event offers an "insider's view" of what's happening at one of the country's top veterinary programs, according to the event's website.

Visitors will get to tour the Randolph B. Terry, Jr. Companion Animal Veterinary Medical Center and the classrooms and laboratories in the College of Veterinary Medicine. There are demonstrations and attractions across the campus as well.

The day also offers fun demonstrations, displays and presentations on pet health and, for younger kids, a Teddy Bear Clinic where they can get their stuffed animals checked out. Visitors will get to talk to faculty, staff and students and see animals of all sizes. Live animals include mare and foal, mules, cows, pigs, poultry, sheep, goats, mussels, turtles, fish, snakes, lizards, rabbits, mice, rats, and kittens, according to the event's website.

I'm told that there will be 13 presentations, 40 partners, and 49 tour stops. As many as 10,000 attended last year.

The college is at 1060 William Moore Dr. The school's website has more information and details.
And another one for your calendars: N.C. State's Farm Animal Days is April 15 to April 17.
