Flooding likely as rain continues in Triangle

The rain is going to stick around for several days and cold temperatures bring a chill to the Triangle.

Heavy rain is expected to continue overnight, which WRAL Meteorologist Mike Maze said could lead to ponding on roads and localized flooding.

Flash flood warnings were issued for Durham and Orange counties until 4:45 a.m. Tuesday. A Flood advisory is in effect for Wake County until 7 a.m.

Rain will lighten by Tuesday morning's commute before a second band moves in during the afternoon.

"I think tomorrow may be less wet than today," Maze said.

A cold front that follows will bring dry skies for Wednesday, but the rain is expected to return again Thursday. By time the skies clear, the region could see between 2 and 3 inches of rain.

"It's not going to rain every period between now and Thursday. We'll get some breaks," Maze said.

In addition to needing the umbrella, coats will also be necessary throughout the week, with highs only reaching the mid-40s most days.

Thankfully, the weekend should be sunny and brisk, and weather should be pleasant for the Raleigh Christmas Parade on Saturday.
