RALEIGH, N.C. — Rev. William Barber and a delegation of activists were on their way to the U.S.-Mexico border Saturday evening.

The group was invited by a Mexican bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese to join others to speak out against what they’re calling unjust treatment of immigrants and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, students.

The DACA program allows undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children to remain in the country to work or attend school.

President Donald Trump said recently that he wants to phase out DACA, but wants to give Congress time to act before recipients’ permits begin to expire.

Barber said the stop along the border is part of the Poor People’s Campaign’s 14-stop tour.

“There are people who are here who want to be. There are students who were born here, who have gone to our schools here, and what we need to do is stop playing games with human beings and their lives and families,” Barber said.

A march is planned for Sunday between Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas.
