Union Pines' girls lacrosse team finishes regular season undefeated with win at Middle Creek

The Union Pines girls lacrosse team ended the regular season with a perfect record after beating Middle Creek on the road on Thursday evening.

Union Pines knocked off the Mustangs 20-14 on the road on Thursday, now the Vikings will enter the state playoffs next week with an undefeated record.

The Vikings never trailed at Middle Creek, and led 13-11 at halftime. Union pines pulled away in the second half, holding the Mustangs to just three goals.

Freshman Ellie Powell led the way for Union Pines, recording seven goals and two assists for a total of nine points. Her seven goals came on 12 shots on goal.

Janie Spicer added five goals for Union Pines, while Addison Volitis posted three goals and four assists.

In all, six different players scored for Union Pines and seven players recorded at least one point.

Union Pines goaltender Isabelle Bonillo recorded 11 saves in the win.

Union Pines is now 13-0 on the season and finishes conference play with an 8-0 record.

Middle Creek has one game left in the regular season, a home game against Panther Creek on Friday at 5 p.m. The Mustangs are now 8-7-1 overall and 7-6 in conference play.
