Apple AirTags help NC mother track down stolen dirt bikes in Raleigh

A Catawba County family is breathing a sigh of relief Thursday after they got their stolen dirt bikes back.

The bikes were stolen from their garage, but thanks to clever tracking technology, they were recovered in Raleigh.

The Moretz family enjoys riding dirt bikes together. However, their fun was interrupted when surveillance footage captured four people stealing all seven bikes from their garage in minutes.

"My husband and I have worked so hard to provide this life for my children. And for them to take the stability and safety away from my home, away from my kids, disgusts me," Lindsay Moretz, mother, said.

Lindsay Moretz, the mother, was at work, and her husband Dustin was working over 2,000 miles away.

"Definitely made me nervous, but my wife is smart," Dustin said.

He says Lindsay began tracking the stolen bikes, which all had air tags on them, down Interstate 40 to a neighborhood in Raleigh.

She has a concealed carry permit but also alerted the highway patrol she was going to get her children's dirt bikes back.

"I called the highway patrol, and I was like ten minutes out, and I told them they should make it there before I do," Lindsay said.

The highway patrol arrived and, following Lindsay's lead, obtained a search warrant. The bikes were recovered in a trailer.

Dustin is thankful his wife got the bikes back and hopes the people responsible are caught.

"Super proud, super proud, she's a beast. They always say don't poke momma bear, so I guess they mean it," Dustin said.

As of Thursday night, there is still no information about the suspects.

Authorities are trying to see if this theft is connected to any others in the area.
